Southbank is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria. Its on the south side of the Yarra River, opposite Melbourne's CBD. Its Local Government Areas are the Cities of
Melbourne and Port Phillip. In 2006 at the Census, Southbank had a population of 9364.
Bordered to the north by the Yarra River, and to the east by St Kilda Road, Southbank's southern and western borders are bounded by Dorcas Street, Kings
Way, West Gate Freeway and Montague Street.Southbank was formerly an industrial area and part of South Melbourne. It was transformed into a densely
populated district of high rise apartment and office buildings beginning in the early 1990s as part of an urban renewal program.
